3. Basic Settings | (User Settings) |
This section focuses on the basic settings of Sync 4.
Custom Setting of HotSync Manager
- Open the Custom... menu from the HotSync Manager. If you have not started the HotSync Manager, please start it at Start > Programs > Palm Desktop.
- You will see the image to the right when you open the Custom... menu.
These are the HotSync custom settings for our example named "Jeff." If you have installed and registered Sync 4 to HotSync properly, you will see five conduits for Scheduler 4, Address Book 4, ToDo List 4, Bulletin Board 4, and WebMail 4.
* Conduit: HotSync requests a synchronization for each application.
- For example, HotSync opens the conduit for ToDo to synchronize with the ToDo List. HotSync also opens conduits for WebMail, Notepad, Payment Memo, Schedule, Address Book, Install, Backup, and others. Conduit is a DLL file.
Initial Setting to Synchronize with Office 4
To synchronize the data between Office 4 and your handheld, you need to set up the Office 4 Common Settings properly. They can be accessed from any of the conduits for Office 4 applications.

In the Location field, enter the URL to access Office 4. Then click the Import button.
The list of user names registered in Office 4 will appear.
Select your name from the user list, and enter the password.
If you access Office 4 through a proxy server, you need to check Use proxy server, and enter the proxy server name and port number.
If a Password Is Required to Access the Web Server
- Depending on the web server running Office 4, the system administrator may have to set up access permission.
- In this situation, your user name and password will be required.
- Enter your user name and password, and proceed to log in.
- Sync 4 only uses Basic Authentication. For details, please contact your server administrator.
